As with all fan bases, there are a few rotten apples among those folks eagerly awaiting the release of what could very well be the most anticipated game of 2019: Kingdom Hearts III. In fact, a number of people following the series are so excited that they can’t just wait until the release date of January 29th (the 25th in Japan) and have taken to reading alleged spoilers from the bane of the majority of the fandom: leakers.
Of course, there will be those who post fake spoilers, and thankfully the fact that they’re fake is typically obvious. Unfortunately, there are real spoilers circulating because a couple of weeks ago, copies of the game were leaked, allegedly due to an individual stealing retail copies and selling them for profit.
The Kingdom Hearts official Twitter account tweeted a statement from game director Tetsuya Nomura soon after news of the leak broke:
Now, no one really knows where all the stolen copies are, but the Kingdom Hearts community at large is keeping everyone informed of social media accounts posting leaks. These accounts get blocked by many fans trying not to be spoiled before the game’s release, but others instead follow these accounts, hungry for information. I personally think it’s a shame that it’s come to this, but when there’s so much hype for a game, leaks seem almost inevitable. However, I am thankful that there are plenty of people respecting the creators of the game and waiting patiently for the official release.
Leaks aside, December spoiled Kingdom Hearts fans with music and trailers that made us lose our minds, again. With less than thirty days until I sob while listening to the title screen music, “Dearly Beloved,” my excitement has peaked.
